This very individual hotel was founded by Richard and Christine Oxtoby in 1965. The family and staff continue to offer friendly professional service in a 'country house hotel' atmosphere. The Hotel was formerly two
private houses which were built during the reign of William the Fourth.

Public areas are delightful, whether it be the relaxing lounge, cosy bar with coal fire, or restaurant The latter has a Cosmopolitan style & ambience.

Every bedroom has its own character; there are gracious suites, others have dressing rooms, some have magnificent four-posters and four Garden suite rooms lead onto the gardens.

The Mount Royale Hotel is just a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of the City centre. A short, pleasent stroll will take you to the very heart of this beautiful and historic city. But remember; in York, the streets
are known as gates, the gates are bars and the bars are pubs!
